Pumping Iron Review

Pumping Iron review, a bodybuilding classic it is entertaining, inspirational and educational.

In this documentary film the action goes from Golds Gym in Venice Beach California to the bodybuilding showdown in Pretoria, South Africa, where amateur and professional bodybuilders are preparing for the 1975 Mr Olympia and Mr Universe Contests.

In the movie Arnold Schwarzenegger who was five time champion at that time defends his Mr Olympia title against Serge Nubret and a shy young deaf Lou Ferrigno (who would later play The Incredible Hulk on TV) with his father as his coach. The ruthless champion psyches out the upstart Ferrigno. Sardinian Franco Columbu competes in the lightweight division and it tells you about his parking problem back home in Italy. Believe it or not but he solved a tight parking problem by lifting his car into place. Can you say wow!

You will find that most of the cast in the movie play themselves and this makes for a very realistic movie. In the movie future govenor and bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger says in the movie that he has always dreamed about very powerful people. Dictators and things like that. He said it always impressed him that people could be remembered for hundreds of years. Maybe that's one of the reasons Schwarzenegger went on to be Governor of California.

And it really doesn't matter if you like Schwarzenegger or not the movie Pumping Iron gives you a look into the back ground of bodybuilding and its a really interesting study into the discipline, willpower and the guts it takes to succeed in the extreme sport of bodybuilding. In the movie Pumping Iron you get a real insiders look into the thoughts, dreams and courage of the bodybuilders in the movie and it really helps that in this movie its the real people playing themselves not actors. So the movie comes across as a real presentation of the world of bodybuilding. Some of the thoughts and feelings of the bodybuilders in the movie are funny but a lot come across straight from the heart and are deep felt.

There are a lot of inspiring moments when the champs are working out. You are presented with a massive Arnold posing and showing off and a up and coming Lou lurking there on the horizon and ready to knock Schwarzenegger off the top. But it also shows the bonding that went on among the bodybuilders. If your looking for one of the best bodybuilding movies ever you just have to see the movie Pumping Iron.

A must own for any fan of bodybuilding!
